Elderly-friendly meals from Health Food Matters for elderly who have trouble swallowing - Sweet bunny

Caring for our elderly parents is only second to nature; filial piety is a virtue that many hold close to our hearts. Love and honouring our parents and giving them the best we can just as they have done when we were children is what many have on the mind as our parent's age.

My mother passed on when I was 13 when there wasn't much I could do so when it came to my father, I strived to give him the best I could. As his cancer became more severe and he was on palliative care his appetite diminished, swallowing food became a daunting task for him. I wished I knew about Health Food Matters earlier rather than giving him ice cream and mashed up food for him not knowing if he was getting enough nutrition yes, he was drinking his supplement ensure milk but he was also getting very skinny, it wasn’t enough.

After extensive research online for food services, I finally found and contacted Health Food Matters, seeking urgent help for my father who was critically ill; he has stomach pains daily and was bedridden. I was afraid that he was going hungry and wanted him to have decent meals.

The Benefits of Meal Prep for seniors - Food has to look appetising and taste good as well to encourage the elderly to consume more than a couple of bites, the nutrition from food will help our loved ones stay healthy and strong. I wished I had known about Health Food Matters earlier rather than relying on catering food that wasn’t prep in the manner that was easy for my father to eat and chew. DeliSoft Meals are Halal certified naturally low in sugar ideal for diabetic, healthy and nutritious foods that are meticulously designed by the dietitian, chef, and food technologist from Health Food Matters.

Other factors to look out for elderly meal prep- Safety is most important as we wouldn’t want our loved ones to be exposed to contaminated food DeliSoft Meals use a special method of freezing to achieve this. The intricate balance of time and temperature is crucial to retain the delicate texture of our food, locking in the freshness and quality of the food as freezing is done as soon as the food is cooked. A love ones appetite might not be very good at the time food is being served during fixed meal times, being able to quickly prepare a meal for them when he or she is hungry according to their body clock would be an optimal way to ensure they get proper nutrition for the day.

It is best to contact Health Food Matters directly for more information as they are experts in their field and would be able to recommend the best meal plan and supplements for your loved one. The staff are helpful, kind and very knowledgeable on the dietary needs of an elderly person to the point where sometimes I wish the dietician in hospitals would offer a recommendation to the company directly rather than advising me to buy frozen dumplings to steam for my father or getting him to eat olive oil mixed with food.

A Special Birthday at Home thanks to Amici Events and Catering - Sweet bunny

We celebrated my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday at home this year due to the spike of covid-19 cases and also for the reason that we can enjoy good company without a time limit.

Simple birthday decoration at home with Balloons- My sister purchased balloons and a banner from my go-to balloon supplier, Mr Party I have used this vendor many times before and found them to be very efficient, helpful and reliable. The balloons are of very good quality. I like helium balloons are they float neatly around and easily spruce up the place. I clipped on the banner with clothing pegs onto my curtains, it gives a really nice ambience to my living, it did that also because yes we might have blu tack available but I would rather avoid damaging my beautifully painted walls.

Grey Curtain Balloons Happy Birthday Banner

We also should bear in mind to dispose of the balloons in a responsible manner as it can be harmful to animals and the environment, never allow a balloon to float away into the sky as we never know where it lands and animals might eat it by mistake. I believe we can enjoy the little things in a life that sparks joy in us as long as we are responsible and find the best way to dispose of the items without harming the environment.

For once I was thankful that we were able to switch from white lights to yellow in my home creating a relaxing and romantic ambience to our home. I normally dislike the warmer tones of lights as I have very sensitive eyes. For this special occasion, I was thankful my eye was able to tolerate the tone of the lighting. I laid out the table and sure everything was set and in place and ready for our special guest.

Amici catering cutlery

The Best Indian cuisine catering in Singapore – We were expecting the typical plastic bento set with plastic cutlery etc. but were blown away with the packaging. We were greeted by Japanese lacquer styled bento boxes that looked very premium and the metal cutlery was kept neatly in a metal Amici branded case. We were all really impressed. Even the paper bag that they placed in looks lavish. Each set cost SGD$42.00 but is worth every cent, the meal was very filling and delicious. Accompanied with wine that we have bought, Bersano Moscato D'asti Monteolivio, we have a lively and sumptuous dinner.

Zaolek lok lok buffet - a guide to the heartlands area of Kovan by Sweet Bunny Lobang - Singapore's Lifestyle & Food Blogger

What is Lok Lok - Lok Lok are like kebabs but instead of being totally meat base, there is a huger selection of ingredients to choose from. These skewered foods are either cooked or uncooked and are dipped into boiling hot soup bases. Sometimes restaurants even provide deep fry and barbequed versions of Lok Lok in their Menu.

Enjoy Lok Lok with friends by Sweet Bunny Lobang - Singapore's Beauty & Lifestyle Blogger

Origins of Lok Lok – Although there is no definite source of where exactly Lok Lok originated from, in a couple of states in Malaysia namely Kuala Lumpur, Subang etc…there are many peddlers, Lok Lok is a form of popular street food which is typically sold in vans and Malaysian restaurant has made its way into the restaurant in Singapore.

Differences between Singapore & Malaysia Lok Lok – For Singapore style of Lok Lok, you may select from a variety of soup bases such as chicken, herbal chicken, Mala, Laksa and TomYum whereby in Malaysia, it is either eaten with boiling with condiments such as sweet chili or satay sauce. It really depends on the state of Malaysia you are in.

Cheap and Affordable Western Food In Djitsun Mall, Buddy Hoagies - Singapore's Lifestyle & Food Blogger - Sweet Bunny

Djitsun Mall Restaurants - In a quiet corner of  Ang Mo Kio Central, there is Djitsun mall and on the ground floor of the building are a few restaurants, Buddy Hoagies is the restaurant that darling and I decided to spend our afternoon at, here is my review and what we enjoyed eating.

Buddy Hoagies Djitsun mall Ang Mo Kio Children's Corner
Kids Corner

Kid-friendly restaurants - The moment I stepped into the restaurant, I could tell it was a very family orientated setting as I saw a little "play" corner for kids, a couple of toys to amuse the kiddies. There is even a kids menu for children aged 12 and under, I wouldn't say that the dishes served are healthy because it is mostly pasta/ mac and cheese and fried stuff with cookies but this is expected from western food cuisine in Singapore, taken as a treat for a child once in a blue moon would be appropriate.

Thai Super Bowl - Everyday Thai Food

Update: They have sadly closed down.
If you are a fan of spicy and sour food, Thai food would be at the top of your list. Thai Superbowl opened its door at the beginning of April 2017. As the name of the establishment suggests it serves delicious Thai food at very reasonable prices. Best known for its enormous pans of seafood tom yum, it is no surprise that comes lunch or dinner time, lines of crowds would snake down the pathway leading to the entrance.

Their signature dish may be the tom yum seafood but what really tickles my fancy is their other dishes as I have a tendency to enjoy the staple food. On the menus, starters include fried chicken wings, spring rolls, mango salad, chicken and tom yum soup. Thai red and green curries are also available a la carte as well as pad thai, fried rice. Under the supermeal category, there are several selections of rice sets comprising meats, fish, and vegetables. You can complete a Thai meal without drinks and dessert, can you?  Thai ice tea, ice lemon tea, and lemongrass tea.Dessert only comprises of mango sticky rice at of $4.00!

It might be a no-frills cafe where you have to make your order and settle your payment at the counter but it's bright and neat atmosphere keeps me coming back whenever I have a craving for Thai food. Apologies for the lack of photos, The food was so good I forgotten to snap a photo or two, will update as soon as I am able to.

Long awaited meet up with my sec school sisters

It has been a year since we last met up, work life and other commitments might have kept us apart but when we gather it is like secondary school all over again...

I know many people have made very judgemental and unkind remarks about being in an all girls' school, that's just because they haven't been to one I guess. I loved the experience, it was a very caring and nurturing environment for a teenager. At the most delicate moments of our lives when we were at our geekiest we knew that we always had our girlfriend to rely on.

Even when we barely keep in touch we know that the bond is still there, chatting endlessly on time gone by, our current relationships and  work. With good company one can never tire.

Dinner at Bibigo Hot Stone at Nex was a pleasant affair,  apart from the grouchy waitress, the food was awesome. The thing I love about korean food is you can eat every morsel and not feel bloated and uncomfortable.

Credits to Katty for the photos.

Had the beef and mushrooms hot pot, I totally love that the portion was generous and the food was fresh and tasty. Best part it's all healthy ! Food is not at all oily or greasy. Only wished the side dishes were refillable lol. I'm a kimchi nut can't get enough of it.

As it was a weekday we all had to head home earlier due to work the next day, so we took one last group shot with my casio tr 150 an awesome camera with awesome features. When I posted the photo my friends loved the quality, It made us all look prettier lol even after a long tiring day at work.

Cheers to my sec school sisters !!!

Ice cream.

When I was a kid, I remembered that the range of ice cream available in Singapore was pretty limited.
Those that were usually available in supermarkets and stores were Magnolia, Kings, Cornetto, Walls, even  the $1 from the uncle on the motorbike . And if you would like to go out for ice cream we would mostly just go to Swenson.

These days we are indeed spoilt for choice. There is a whole new array of stores to choose from... Here are a couple of dear's and my favourite ice cream haunts.

Ben & Jerry's, one of my ultimate favourites, Love the ice cream because of it's flavourful milky texture. There are a lots of interesting flavours to choose from, chunky monkey , strawberry cheese cake ... great mix busting with flavour  Also found in tubs in the supermarkets but personally I prefer getting mine from the store some how it taste better.

Anderson's Ice Cream, They been here for quiet some time and I must say that they have a Great selections of low fat yoghurt and ice creams, more on your traditional popular flavours but the quality is awesome !

Basking Robins, I think they just came to Singapore a few years back, They have great promotions on Wednesdays where you show them something pink and you get a junior scoop free.

Haato , Okay this is actually Gelato specially made with recipes from japan, but just look at that ! The photo speaks for itself, generous amount of strawberries were given , Waffle was extra crispy just the way dear and I like it.

Gelare, again wonderfully crispy waffles smothered in maple syrup topped with awesome ice cream. Dear and I usually pop by on tuesdays because of the half price promotions of that day :P

Well in sunny singapore ice cream is always an awesome way to help you cool off.... Sweet treats that would make anyone smile well everyone but your waistline .
