Hot Water Storage Heater for your BTO Flat - Sweet Bunny

Nothing is as refreshing as having a shower at the beginning of the day or at the end after a long day’s work. Cleaning oneself is about personal hygiene and the numerous benefits and health benefits you receive from a hot shower.

Selecting a New Water Heater –
When choosing a water heater for your home, there are a few factors to consider, such as the space available to place the water heater, preference for an instant tankless water heater or a storage water heater. Personally, I prefer a storage water heater for my household because we own a rain shower, having the proper water pressure to be compatible for the rain shower to function well, producing a refreshing blast of water instead of drips of water in cases where the water heater’s pressure isn’t sufficient.

BTO bathroom

Like most 4-Room BTO flats, there are two bathrooms, one connected to the master bedroom and another to the living room. My family and I use both bathrooms heavily and are glad to report that the A. O. Smith Water Heater was and still is very reliable for the past two years. The only issue we experienced was the heater switch installed by HDB broke. Still, thankfully, my Interior designer Hosen Gan from Swiss Interior, dispatched a contractor to help replace the switch for us. Hosen recommended AOS Bath to us. I can always trust Hosen’s recommendation. He is truly an honest and reliable ID.

Water Heater Purchase and Installation – The purchase was made by my husband, he went down to the AOS Bath showroom in Paya Lebar on a Saturday, and he said the staff were friendly, knowledgeable about their products and helpful. He purchased the A.O. Smith intelligent heater (40L/10 gal)/ Gen 6 Digital Heater and a pre-filter.

The following weekend 2 contractors came to fix up the heater in the bathroom closer to my living room. I felt terrible because the lights had not been installed in my place yet, but the heater was installed well with some torchlights. A job well done; we never faced issues with the heater for the past two years.

When family members use the hot water, you could always press the instant button to get hot water in a couple of minutes. To me, that is the best function of a storage heater.

Purchasing a heater from a reputable and trusted brand is essential for safety and cost savings. No one wants a heater that keeps breaking down and requires constant repairs.

The Benefits of a Coffee Table On Wheels- Sweet Bunny

The coffee table, I would have to say, is a piece of furniture that holds many memories for me. Before I was married, my family and I had dinner on a rather sizeable square-shaped glass coffee table in front of the television rather than at the dining table; our relatives would jest that we were eating in Japanese or Korean-style home. I would do my homework or assessments while my late father watched television or corrected my work.

As most apartments in Singapore are getting smaller and smaller… we have to adjust the way we do the space planning of our homes. The living room is also my family room where most activities such as exercise, watching a movie together or an evening of gaming take place. Having a permanent fixture in the centre of our living room would limit the number of activities we can use.

The solution… A coffee table with wheels, about 2 years ago, right after my renovations were done, I moved into my new home, and most of the furniture was bought. There weren’t many tables with wheels in the market. My only choice was the TINGBY Side table on castors from Ikea. I liked the side table for its size and practicality but not so much for the design, but it still works well as a coffee table.

                                  ikea side table with wheels

Advantages of the table on wheels - Mobility is one of the top benefits of having a table on wheels. It gives you the flexibility of shifting the table around at ease. Being able to change the table quickly to any place in our home makes enjoying a cuppa, snack or even a meal when one is alone at home a treat; just prop a bean bag next to it, and you would be good to go.

The shape of tables on wheels - The tables that I have seen available in Singapore are mostly square or rectangular shaped; not much of a variety to choose from, but online there are many choices from all over the globe, but I worry about the shipping fees, assembly and quality of the products, what you see might not be what you get another option is getting a customised table on a wheel designed and manufactured locally, but that can be on the pricey side. A feature that you would consider having for a table on wheels has a locking feature; young children tend to lean on the tables or use it to support their weight as they wobble unstably at home. Locking the table would prevent mishaps from happening.

In conclusion, I would say that having a table on the wheel is an excellent addition to a home, some may even consider adding wheels to a small dining table when you live in a small space, and with a bit of creativity and innovation, you can design a room that is both comfortable and multi-functional.

Create a gift wrapping station for your home- Sweet Bunny

My interior designer Hosen installed a built-in cabinet in the centre of my living room during our BTO home renovation. It was meant for shoes. Still, I did not like the idea of keeping shoes too close to our family altar out of respect. Thankfully, the shelves were adjustable, and I rearranged them to create a space to store the commonly used items my family often reach for, my bags and a gift-wrapping station.

messy cabinet with wrapping paper and home supplies

Pegboard Alternative: using Ikea SVENSÅS Memo board - I had initially purchased two magnetic boards from Ikea for our study. Still, I never got to hang the panels up as I didn’t use the space that was meant to be my desk, so the boards just lay forgotten in our laundry yard for a couple of months. About the same time, the mess in my cabinet has been bugging me the clutter of wrapping paper and household accessories were just a hindrance of stuff toppling off the shelves at times and impossible to find what we needed. To resolve this issue, I decided to put up the memo boards in my cabinet; amazingly, it sucks well with Bostik Original Blu-Tack; I had always preferred the original as it was always strong enough and can come off cleanly when required to. Magnetic boards make a great alternative to Pegboards because you don’t have to place items in a very fixed manner. Magnetic boards can be placed almost anywhere without worrying that hooks and attachments fall off; magnets are powerful, quickly found, and more affordable.

Daiso hacks for hanging your wrapping paper - Most DIY solutions for hanging wrapping paper use a curtain rod, which I initially wanted to do. Still, I often switch up how I organise my home and do not want any permanent fixtures. After much consideration and wondering around Daiso, an idea struck me. Two of the semi-round basket with a thin magnet placed on their sides can hold on to the wrapping paper regardless of length.

reuse ribbons

Reusing gift bags, wrapping paper and ribbons- The holders can hold up about three pieces together, which is sufficient for me, as I do not usually buy many sheets at a time; most of the ones I have were given to me as a freebie from stores.

I used these holders on the right side to store wrapping papers from gifts that I receive that are still in good condition to reuse for future events; I also use the holders for items that my household uses.

I have the habit of keeping ribbons for products I purchased or received as gifts and storing them in a sticking can case from Daiso; I believe you can find these in IKEA as well GRUNDTAL Container, stainless steel in a better quality form, but for ribbons, I think the Daiso will Suffice.

giftwrapping station with daiso and ikea stuff

On the shelf, I used stackable containers from Daiso to keep greeting cards for all occasions, red packets for the lunar new year, and stickers that I have collected over the years. My family always asked me for other commonly used items, such as a nail clipper, which is impossible to keep in a bathroom due to Singapore’s humid climate, where things can easily rust.

I was delighted with this arrangement because it saves my family time from sorting and searching for items we need. At a snap of the finger, we can just get what we need and be on our way. As long as we have the discipline to keep the items in their proper “homes”, we will always be able to find what we need when we need it.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and a blessed New year ahead! I hope my post inspires you to create your own gift-wrapping station.

Tupperware still the best today- Sweet Bunny

When I was a child, my mother would take me to block parties organised by the community centre, at these events the aunties of the neighbourhood would sell Tupperware along with some tasty treats that they would bake or cook. My mother purchased a couple of food containers used them on many occasions. I will always hold such memories of my mother close to my heart as I only had about 13 years with her.

I never needed to buy my own kitchenware until I became a homeowner; I found myself needing proper, safe to use and lasting food containers. I have a cabinet in my kitchen where I store all my spices and ingredients. Many of the spices come in ready to use containers but only the salt and sugar come in plastic bags.

Storing salt and sugar-I recently purchased the Tupperware Umami Collection spice container 500ml to store my salt and sugar. , I really like the smart and intuitive design of this Tupperware store container. This spice container is airtight, the lid is easy to open and spill-proof keeping the contents fresher longer. I like my container to be clear as I can easily check at a glance the amount that is left when I prepare my grocery shopping list.

Spice spoon design –The Umami Collection spice container come with a spoon not just any spoon but one that would smartly fit at the upper part of a Tupperware, a spoon rest where the spoon’s feet cling to keeping it clean and easy to access. You wouldn’t need to use your fingers to dig out the spoon from the condiments making it more hygienic. The spoon also has double-sided measurements, perfect for cooking or baking reducing the need of retrieving another cutlery to get the measurement job done. It is also curved reaches into every corner of the container, from top to bottom - No waste!

The purple colour is vibrant are a treat for the eyes as it blends well in my blue-white kitchen well. I made a couple of labels from my brother label maker removing the hassle of guessing if it is salt or sugar. As I have four containers from the set, I used one for salt and the other three for brown and white sugar.

Secretlab Gaming Chair Omega 2020 Review but wish I had the Titan Evo 2022 model instead - Sweet Bunny.

While the renovations were still being completed in mid of 2020, dear purchased 2 Omega 2020 Secretlab gaming chairs, thankfully the floors were done and we could keep our chairs locked up in a room. I guess he was excited for our study to be completed. Fast forward to August 2021 the chairs are still in great condition no peeling of the Secretlab Prime 2.0 PU Leather.

Dear picked the colour royal and ash, I got the royal one as dear knew I liked the colour blue; he purchased the chairs at SGD$469.00 each with a shipping fee of $40.00.

The best ergonomic office chairs Secretlab-
Assembling the Secretlab chairs were a breeze for him as he followed the instructions, which saved us the installations fees. This has to be the coolest chair I ever owned, never before had I had a chair with so many features and specialized design. I found it very comfortable and could sit in it for long hours without getting back pain, I also really like the head pillow and lumbar pillows as it fits the form of the back of your head and back as you sit on the chair, you can even lie back and catch a quick power nap in this chair.

Ergonomic footrest I use with my secretlab gaming chair

My only dislike about the Omega 2020 model is my feet can’t touch the ground, I am 1.58m tall and my feet tend to dangle, I am currently using a footrest which can be a little uncomfortable at times as I prefer to have my feet touch the floor. In case you were wondering I bought the footrest from Shopee.

Recently I saw the Titan Evo 2022 and really like the upgraded features of the chair like the magnetic head pillow which foregoes the usual elastic strap, a waterfall feet edge and a dial the adjust the lumbar support's height, If I had the option to trade in and purchase a new chair I would as the Titan Evo 2022 would suit me better as it is recommended for people who are from 150m to 169m tall.

I guess now we don’t only have to upgrade our phones we have to upgrade our gaming chairs too. I wished they would have come up with these features earlier but I guess in a way that Secretlab always strives to improve their products.

Keep Lizards and Insects away with InsectOut's Magnetic Insect Screen Window Mesh - Sweet Bunny

If there is one thing that I really detest about pests, it is their droppings, I really absolutely hate lizard droppings, it sticks onto the walls and goodness knows where else in a home.

When dear and I were planning out our budget and expenses for our home, insect meshing the entire house was on top of the list. Keeping pests like mosquitoes, cockroaches, flies and even birds out from our home and taking care of our family’s well-being is a worthy cause.

I have to say InsectOut is an excellent vendor because Mindy is always ever ready to offer good advice and assistance whenever I drop her message. Call me kiasu but I contacted the vendor during my home renovation way before the window grills even were installed. Mindy shared the requirements and optimal way to have my grills installed so that the mesh and grills of my window would be totally sealed with no gaps or spaces for the creepy crawlies to come into our home. I am thankful that Mindy highlighted the importance of ensuring my window grills were properly cased up as my contractor wasn’t aware and was going to install the grills in another way that wouldn’t allow my meshes to be installed properly.

not gaps between the window and the grill to keep pest out

not possible to install insect mesh with the gap

Best insect mesh screen installation service in Singapore- InsectOut provides a custom made mesh service for all types of windows and grilled gates, they have a range of magnets that cleverly matches the colours of window grills enabling it to blend well with its surrounding grills and will not be an eye-sore to look at. The scenery outside will not be blocked by the mesh and you can even leave the window open and fresh air and sunlight in. The mesh used is also very durable because it is made out of fibreglass which is easy to maintain just by washing and wiping with a microfiber cloth or even just using the vacuum to remove any dust, just as you would with your aircon filter. The mesh is secured between 2 interlocking grooved magnetic strips and grooved PVC strips. The strips are not permanent and can be removed if you are renting a property you can consider installing these insect meshes.

mesh frames to match with your window grill

After my renovation was completed, I arranged with Mindy to speak to one of InsectOut’s sales representatives, Mr TC who was very friendly and informative about InsectOut’s Magic Seal product. After we agreed to proceed with the installations he took the measurements of all our windows and matched the colour of our grills to the samples that he has. The next visit was made by Mr Malek a soft-spoken and hardworking individual who helped us install the mesh, when we asked him if he would like to take time off for lunch he smiled and said he had a heavy breakfast before he stopped by.

Verdict, we love the meshes, when I first moved into my flat I was contently bitten by mosquitos, a baby lizard visited our kitchen and flying cockroaches came as and when they pleased through our window after the meshes were installed I have not seen any of these pests enter our home through the window, only a few tiny cockroaches from the drainpipe which I have since placed cockroach bate near and haven’t seen any since and the ultra-tiny housefly that may have come through the door as we enter our home. It has been a year since the mesh has been installed and we face no issues at all, the best part is Mindy is just a message away if we need any assistance.

                               Insectout mesh window

Getting InsectOut to install the meshes is one of the best choices we have made and would highly recommend them who seeks to keep pest out of their homes

The Best Sink for your kitchen, Cleanup kitchen sink from Japan, Song-cho - Sweet Bunny

In an Asian household, we prefer to do our dishes by hand because we find it more cost-effective, cleaner, and we don't have to go through the hassle of maintaining a machine. Also for those of us who live in apartments, the size of our apartments are small, and it would be hard to make room for one.

Speaking about washing dishes, having a good sink is essential to any kitchen, one that doesn't clog up easily with food particles to be exact.

Where can I find such a sink you say...

Best Super Silent Japanese Stedia Sink from Song-Cho - Originally we wanted the SC/SA Kitchen Sink W75cm (B Style Kitchen Sink) but the size was just too big for our kitchen counter so we settled for the Super Silent Stedia Sink SD Kitchen Sink (W65cm) instead which is retailing at S$995.00. I am glad to report it has almost been a year and we love this kitchen sink! It is easy to maintain and clean thanks to the Hydrophilic Special Ceramic Coating which makes daily cleaning a breeze. The sink also remains scratch-free because it is designed with embossing technology the stainless steel is embossed with an e-coat finish making the sink scratch resistant. Now I bet you are wondering what is silent technology, the sink has damping materials on the base and sides to form a high performing vibration control structure which ensures that the water hitting the stainless steel in a quiet manner sound test has sounded the noise produced from water hitting the sink is about 40dB which is about the amount of noise you would hear in a library.

Stream Flow technology of the Super Silent Japanese Stedia Sink – The drainage system of this sink is awesome! It is clearly designed in such a way that your food particles will be trapped in a netting object called a drain basket before the water is drained from the sink bye-bye skin clogs! Quick drainage is possible with the streamflow technology that Cleanup because uses streamflow technology which pushes the water to the drainage.

High-quality detachable detergent rack- I absolutely love the detachable detergent rack that came along with the sink, there is ample space to store all my dish cleaning accessories that drain dry. I totally detest sponge holders which don’t drain out the water making It a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. I can just simply detach the rack and clean it as and when I need too I have a separate sponge to clean my sink and its accessories so I would reach for that and clean the rack once a week with dish detergent.

High-quality detachable detergent rack song-cho

My sink was installed by Hosen from Swiss Interior who was very meticulous when it came to measurements so I provided him with the sinks plans which I got from calling up Song-Cho to fit my custom made kitchen counters. Hosen is very experienced and I didn’t have to tell him what a housekeeper at my workplace taught me, that you should never make your sink flush with your countertop instead create a slight step above it so that you won’t have water slashing over the sink when in use this is called an under-mount sink.

I hope this post proves to be useful for those who are going to get their home renovated.

'Ikea Hack' Study/Craft Table and Storage - Sweet Bunny

After my study table and shelf fiasco, I needed a proper study/craft area. Thankfully, I had enough space on the other side of the room so I decided to purchase some readymade furniture. I searched on the entire internet for local furniture stores but didn’t like the layout of the table or felt there was just never enough storage for my projects and knick-necks.

At my wit's end, Ikea came to mind, as a huge fan of Ikea hacks, I decided to give it a go and was hope my attempt will not be an absolute failure so here I go sharing with you my “Ikea Hack Venture”.

Ikea Hack Study and Storage no drilling of walls

What you need to prepare for an Ikea Hack -When you began any project you have to ensure that you get all your requirements written down as well as the exact measurements of the area in your home that is available. It is important not to lose focus and get distracted by all the fancy options that are available but to really purchase what you need. In my case, I need a desk and a lot of storage.

Find ways to visualise how the outcome - To help me have an idea of how my Ikea hack will turn out I used Powerpoint and drag and drop about the pictures of the furniture to have a feel of how my setup would turn out. I didn’t want to have any drilling done onto the walls so my aim was to have furniture that would fit together like a set and all I needed to do is shift them around and place them where I desire. It also helped me see where I have to avoid for example I wanted 3 Silveran shelves as it would fit the length of my desk but I have an electrical outlet near the left side of my desk so I had to scrap that idea.

The furniture I purchased from Ikea online store, Tampines was the

1)HAVSTA Storage combination with doors, white81x47x212 cm,

2)Silveran High Cabinet X 2

3)HEMNES DESK W 2 DRWS 120X47 WHITE STAIN AP.

I also opted for the professionals to fix up the furniture for me to save time and because we were installing a ton of other stuff such as curtains and other appliances concurrently. I really like all the installation staff from Ikea, they were polite, funny and super helpful. They were also careful to ensure that they followed the covid-19 safety procedures that Ikea had set for them such as having their mask on all the time during their work in my home.

They were surprised about my Ikea hack idea and said Madam these Silveran High Cabinets are meant for the bathroom. I told him I knew but I want to use them as bookshelves instead. I also instructed him not to install the bottom two doors or the legs of the cabinet as I would be placing the HEMNES desk in front of the cabinets and still wanted to be able to store items under my desk to maximise the use of the space.

extra storage under ikea HEMNES DESK

As for the HAVSTA Storage combination, I used it to keep my books, crafts items and documents. It is also my mini command centre where I keep all our important letters and notices. I will elaborate more in another post on how I organise my documents.

He also kindly offer to nail the two cabinets together so they would be more secure and would not shift around. I also instructed them to help me shift the HAVSTA Storage combination to the side of my desk and the Silveran High Cabinet combination.

I really liked the all-white vintage barn look of my new study. Now I have plenty of space for all my stuff.  For the top shelves, I stuck whiteboards from Daiso to scribble down notes on my to-do list as well as keep track of bills. I prefer to keep everything hidden away to minimise the clutter around my work desk. At the top of the cabinet, I can do a bit of decoration to brighten up my side of the room.

I shifted the shelves closer to the cabinet after I finish cleaning up after we completely moved in.

Silveran High Cabinet used as book and stationery storage

If you put your mind to it you can do your very own Ikea Hack, furniture don't always have to be used the way it was built you could always customise it to your needs and liking that is the beauty of Ikea furniture. But as always keep in mind safety first of course never create anything unsafe for you and your family to use.

BTO Home Essentials Series 1- The Best HDB Metal Gate Lock from Loon Lock Smart Home Security - Sweet Bunny

It can be a nightmare searching for the right lock for your brand new HDB BTO's gate but it doesn’t have to be because Loon Lock has come to your rescue…

Call me old school but I prefer the traditional padlock compared to their digital counterpart.

I was fed up with locking and unlocking the gate itself as it was very noisy and took many turns of a key to unlock or lock it. I prefer a padlock that is fitted onto an eye bracket, making opening my gate a breeze.

LOON LOCK SINGAPORE HDB GATE INTRODUCTION

Where to get a padlock for your HDB Gate - The newer HDB gates come with different sized eye brackets which made it more difficult to find the right bolt size. I found Loon Lock HDB Gate online and got dear to purchase one at a Selffix store after reading positive reviews on Loon Locks's Facebook page.

The locally-based company has created an ingenious padlock with functions that are very well executed. Unlike the common padlock, the Loon padlocks are much better in many ways.

For example, when you unlock your gate there is no need for lifting the padlock off the gate when you get home from grocery shopping or struggling with your keys until you get inside your home. As for the case where you lose your keys, there is no need to throw the entire padlock away, you could buy a key cylinder and replace the old keys with new ones. We are in the age of sustainability and with the move to be more eco-friendly in mind, making purchases that can minimise wastage and minus out single usage would be the way to go.

The best padlock for home security-  My hubby purchased the LOON Lock ART. 118 BKR retails at SGD 118.00. Although he had some trouble installing the lock as the eye bracket of the gate was too small. He sent a WhatsApp message to Loon Lock and they came down to install the lock without charge. Even though the purchase was made from Selffix and not directly from the company's webpage. We have enjoyed using our new lock ever since.

Installation of Loon Lock in HDB BTO

I highly recommend getting your gate locks from Loon as they are very committed to providing excellent customer service. It is also a great way to show your support for a local company. The lock is available for purchase on their website or from their retail partners. Which I may add have grown in number since the last time I checked their website.

Clutterbug organisation tips, skills that I brought with me to work - Sweet Bunny - Singapore's Hair, Beauty & Lifestyle blogger

About 4 years ago, I was searching for ways to keep my wardrobe tidy, YouTube has always the site I seek when searching for an idea of being a kinetic learner.

As a dyslexic, I prefer to learn by observing how things are done, videos are a great medium since it has the function to re-watch and rewind the videos as many times as I liked, to grasp the skill, concept, and procedures that are required for each project.

First Impressions - The first video I watched by Cassandra was from her old channel on YouTube malitose79. I was hooked from the start! Learning personal organizational skill has never been so fun, she just perks me up every time with her cheery personality and I find her videos very relatable.
