Bridget Jones is back !

Being an avid fan of the Bridget Jones series, I have read the books and watched the other 2 movies and kept tracked for a new movie for the past 12 years lol. Doesn't help that I am a big Renee Zellweger fan as well.

Bridget Jones's diary which is a reinterpretation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a hilarious and romantic comedy. The first instalment was out when I was in my teens, Oh I still can recall the ending where Bridget ran out into the snow after Mark Darcy in her undies!

The longest ride

I am a huge Nicolas Sparks fan, Yes I have read almost all his books. They usually have the same theme and outcomes, it does get boring after a while but it is really refreshing to get back into the books and movies after a break or after facing a failed relationship.

A girl still can dream can't she?

Thor: The Dark World

If you are a Marvel comic fanatic like I am you would have caught the movie, Thor and The Avengers. Well the Thor saga continues ...

In this movie, when the world is in peril Thor has no choice but to ask his adoptive brother for help. In the last movie The Avengers, things were not left on a pleasant  note, resulting in Loki being imprison for the crimes he have committed . Will Loki help Thor in his quest to save the world from Malekith and his army of dark elves?

On the bright side he gets to meet Jane foster but will it be for the last time ?

Check out the trailer:

Forget Miley Cyrus, Thor is totally hotter with his magical hammer ...

“Catch Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World” in Singapore cinemas this 31 October 2013! For more updates, like the Official Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World Singapore Facebook Page, and subscribe to the Official Marvel Singapore YouTube Channel!”

despicable me 2

I was a huge fan of Despicable me but part two sadly feel a bit flat for me.

Yes it was really sweet that Gru our dear villain turn good guy stepped up to the role of being a great father to  Agnes, Edith and Margo.Throwing princess birthday parties and keeping potential boyfriend/heart breakers away.

The introduction of new characters didn't flow well , it was like they were just jammed packed in to the movie for the sake of being there.

Lucy was sweet but from the start there was no connections and signs of Gru even being attracted to her when everyone else was and he suddenly just falls for her ? I don't buy that haha.

El Macho just appeared here and there and for the final battle his character I felt was pretty 2 dimensional, doesn't give you the vibe of a true villain and what is with the chicken totally lame.

The charm of despicable me was the relationship between Gru and the girls, there was too much focus on Lucy and the minions. The girls were like placed in the back seat , a side story . A few lines here and there and very short clip about the girls I hardly even saw Edith.

Dr. Nefario's brief departure from Gru's  team was alright because he wanted miss the old days but coming back because no one messes with his family ? Why did he help El macho with kidnapping and transforming the minions in the first place if 'family' mattered so much to him ?

The minions were up to standard with their madcap humor and entices, I guess they were the factor that saved the movie from being a b rate movie. Love their renditions of boy band songs .

Just my Point of view of the movie seriously needs a better storyline.

I give this movie  2 clouds

Man of steel

Dear and I met up after work at vivo to chill and have dinner, having heard from his aunt that Man of steel was awesome and it's a must watch . We decided to catch the midnight show.

I have been following the superman series for as long as I can remember, be it the animated version or drama series, I was a huge fan. Superman is definitely one of my favourites apart from x man and batman. Superheroes definitely are a part of my childhood, watching them on screen and learning values and morals beside that action pack stuff.

I bet some of you remember this right ? This awesome series ran from
September 1996 to February 2000

The New Adventures of Superman , Lois & Clark. Featuring  Dean Cain as Superman/Clark Kent and Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane. I felt that this series was Teri our beloved desperate house wives's break as a lead actress . The series ran from September 1993 to June 1997, haha I still remember watching this series during my primary school days on channel 5.

Ok now back to the movie man of steel, WARNING stop reading now if you don't want spoilers.

Alrighty, Man of steel what's the diff from the other cartoons, dramas and movies from this superhero?
Well  for one it's definitely more sci-fi ish, be prepared to watch a bunch of "aliens" hunt superman down and aim to destroy the world.I loved the action and the flashbacks from Clark's childhood but this sci-fi stuff maybe interesting to know about his past and all but it is very hard to swallow.

Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the film just the sci-fi stuff isn't really my cup of tea. I loved the little jokes from here and there and the action was awesome, not forgetting that the superman actor  Henry Cavill is really really hot !!! ah lol .

The film has it's softer side, with Clark's flashback to his childhood and his love of his foster mother, the only lady who could get him out of the janitors closet thumbs up mum! Being an outcast and it was heartbreaking to watch his real parents sending him away to safety from krypton.

All in all it wasn't a bad film , I for one wouldn't mind watching it again, so if you haven't caught it and is sitting at home bored... head down to your nearest cinema to catch it :)

I give this movie 4/5 clouds

Well 4/5 because it had a good script and a good ending which is a standard which most films sadly don't meet these days.

The Call

Dear, his cousin and I decided to drop by the cinema for a late night movie after a hearty dinner @ Hippopotamus . Dear's cousin said he wanted to catch The Call as the trailer he saw was pretty good.

Synopsis: When a veteran 911 operator takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl who has just been abducted, she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl's life.  Credits to http://www.imdb.com

Here's the trailer

Pretty exhilarating huh? I was at the edge of my seat at every moment of the film, well almost at every part ... Lead actress Halle Berry, who so happens to be one of my favourite actresses was the bomb, only an awesome actress like her could pull off the intense and emotional role of Jordan our beloved operator.

Abigail Breslin was awesome as well, the young actress was a very convincing captive Casey Welson, especially in the scene where she was locked up in trunk of a car, helpless and crying without overacting. Was darn scary being locked in someone's trunk, I kept thinking what if that was me ? Lol

The plot was pretty good, gives you an insight of an emergency call centre and the daily life of an operator, shows how street smart and fast thinkers an operator has to be in order to ensure your caller's safety . Sometimes even having to deal with life and death situations, one wrong move may cause fatality.

All through the movie Jordan is guiding Casey via cell phone on what to do and keeping her calm throughout the whole fiasco, sadly nothing work as the killer Michael Foster (Michael Eklund) has his ways to deal with every situation. Jordan had to face off with him at the end...

The only flaw about the movie is the ending ... I loved every bit of it, but the ending sucked big time.

If your bored and wanna catch a flick the call would be a great movie to catch ...
Watching these two awesome actresses in an action pack thriller totally worth it !

I give it 3.5 out of 5 clouds.

          Cloudtastic !

Haha just my own rating system because my chinese name has the word Yun  which means cloud in it.

Life of Pi

Due to my busy schedule I barely have time to go to the movies and lets be honest out of 8 out of 10 films are just remakes of something that has been shown years ago, totally makes it a dread to watch. If the remake is good that's a plus, if it isn't it's just a waste of money and time.

Perhaps Hollywood writer's creative juices have ran dry ? What can I say it is not easy to come up with a totally new concept and be expected to be refreshing all the time ...

Now back to the movie I have just watched with dear at home.

Life of Pi , based on an award wining book by Yann Martel. Although fictional and not based on a real life account, I love this movie to bits not only because of the colourful storyline and animals but because it has so much depth.

Piscine Molitor Patel a young Indian boy who grew up in Pondicherry a former French colony in India , Self Christian "Pi" , was a delight to watch with his antics in school, being teased because of his name resembling "pissing" by his schoolmates. Growing up in a zoo that his father own Piscine learn a lot about the ways of the animals both penned and wild.

What I liked best about Pi was his child liked faith in the religions he came across in his early teens, catholic and Muslim. A born Hindu , Pi didn't judge a religion based on what it was but focus on what was beautiful about it. The adorable fellow ended up following 3 religions.

The movie has it's sad moment when he lost his family and ended up on a life boat with a tiger named Richard Parker  for 297 days out at sea and surviving the ordeal. It was really a very touching movie that would struck a cord in you .It teaches you to hang on to faith even when your in the bleakest of situations.

If  I have never watched this film, I would have never known about the book and we all know movies are just bits and pieces of what a book is actually about but it helps publicise  a good book  ... So I'm definitely gonna grab the book and read up on this fantastic story...
