My Wedding Journey 16- Actual Day Wedding All in one package Photography and Videography, Gate Crash Games- Sweet Bunny

My father passed in August this year, I felt very blessed to have taken photos and videos with him on my wedding day. Watching and looking at the photographs of him do bring on tears at times but it was a good way to have a little memento of him being around to walk down the aisle with me.

Invest in a professional and affordable videographer and photographer - I wanted a no-frills wedding photography service that might not have aerial drone photography a whole entire team etc. What was most essential is a non- earthquake videographer who won’t lose all the precious moments captured and a photographer who take various beautiful photos even in the dim lights of the wedding banquet. I found all that with Simon Video & Photo Service

My Wedding Journey 18 - Where to get affordable and classy bridesmaid dresses in Singapore - Sweet Bunny

When it came to bridesmaid dresses the movie 27 dresses starring Katherine Heigl come to mind. Seeing her being tortured in the colourful array of dresses she had to wear made me cringe however you have to applaud the Heigl’s character, Jane for her commitment in helping others on their big day.

I didn’t want to be a bridezilla; I wanted my bridesmaids to be comfortable as they help me with the day’s events.

Why should we buy practical bridesmaid dresses - Being a practical and thrifty individual; I felt that the bridesmaid's dresses should be reusable for daily life. Not for a one-day event after which the dress would be stored and eventually thrown away. I always try my best to avoid the fast fashion trend because it pollutes the earth.

Where to find bridesmaid dresses in Singapore- our first destination was Funan Mall, where there are Love Bonito and a couple of other blog shops. Unfortunately, nothing in season matched our criteria. I chanced upon The BMD store which has a pleasant selection of bridesmaid dresses, as they were available at The showcase store in Tampines the ladies and I went down one evening to try out their collection.

The Showcase is a retail stall based in Nex Mall at Serangoon and Century Mall at Tampines, it is a physical store for a couple of blog shops in Singapore.

The ladies tried on a couple of dresses but due to their petite size, most dresses looked frumpy. The shop personnel a very nice middle-aged lady was very patient and kind to us, she saw that I was carrying a huge bundle of church booklets and suggested that she kept it at the counter for me while we tried on the dresses. We left the shop once because we couldn't find anything we liked but returned because we felt bad that we spend 2 hours in the store and had not purchased anything. We went back in search for work wear when....

I found the perfect dress. The dress was from Neomello, it was sophisticated the right size for the ladies and right length.

We wanted to have different coloured dresses, unfortunately, one of the coloured dress didn’t have the size we required, the shop personnel assisted with checking at the other branch and even with the blog shop it was sold out. She suggested we stick to one colour for the dress instead as she said since I only had 2 bridesmaids it would look more uniform. Unless there is a whole group of girls a mixture of colour would be better. It totally made sense. Hurray one task down. We have procured the bridesmaid dresses.

I couldn’t thank the shop assistant enough, I would definitely patronise the Tampines branch more often. The best part was the ladies could use the dress again for dinner parties for another evening event, they even joked with each other to remember not to twin each other for the same event on another occasion.

I suggested the ladies don shawls at church for a more conservative look. During my experience as a bridesmaid, a relative of the bride configures my shawl it into a nifty jacket. Indeed when you lend a helping hand to other you are blessed in other ways. The best part was the bridesmaid dresses matched the groom's suit, it was unintentional but everything all fell in place with god's grace.

My maid of honour treated me to a staycation at JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La. We had a good relaxing time catching up and hanging out at the pool, pretending to live the Tai Tai lifestyle.

Best hotel for a bridal staycation in Singapore –stayed in the Club Room which had a mini kitchen equipped with bright yellow SMEG fridge and a microwave. I love the fact that the room is divided with a sliding door separating the sleeping areas from the living room/pantry. Although there isn’t a balcony I felt that the room was cosy enough as it was tastefully decorated.

Best Buffet Breakfast at J65 Restaurant for a full breakfast buffet – the next day before the end of our stay we headed down to J65 Restaurant for a delightful breakfast buffet, there was a wide range of Indian, Chinese as well as western breakfast being served. What was most memorable about the establishment to me was not only the delicious food but also the warm and friendly staff. The chef preparing out omelettes smiled and cracked a couple of jokes with us. His cheery ways was indeed a delightful way to begin your day.

Balloons for a wedding hen party - In addition, my maid of honour decorated our room with balloons and even bought me a bouquet of roses. I was very touched that she placed so much effort in organising this staycation on top of helping me coordinate my wedding.

Goodies bags for bridesmaids – I prepared a goodies bag for my bridesmaid, more details are written in this post. I also purchased robes from Tao bao for them, wished I had the time to iron the robes, it would have looked much better without the wrinkles. My dear friend and sister were as written on the robes my sister because I knew I could always count on them through thick and thin to weather any storm.

A hen party need not be a crazy night out in the town, catching up with the girls and watching a movie could also be as enjoyable.

My stay was in September 2019, apologies for the very delayed post.

My Wedding Journey 14 - Where I purchase a kabaya singapore - Sweet Bunny

My sisters wanted to wear kebaya for my wedding reception, I being the one who always sources for stuff for my family went on the hunt for affordable Kebayas and accessories.

Best Kebaya Store in Kampong Glam -
I found a store on carousel name Kebaya By Ratianah, Located in Kampong Glam the charming store has a black retractable awning alone with a couple of kebayas being displayed at the entrance. I wanted to purchase the Kebayas via Carousell but as advised by the store owner it was better to go down to see their full collection and try on the Kebayas for a better fit.

Kebaya By Ratianah

Peranakan Kebaya Store with best customer service - We were warmly greeted by 2 young ladies who immediately assisted us with choosing our kabaya, suggesting which colours and patterns would match better together. As well as teaching us how to pin the korasang properly. perhaps I should watch more Youtube videos. I loved that my kebaya fitted like a glove being a person of a larger size it is a real treat.

Kebaya of all sizes for women - We all prefer pink and purple kebayas, I originally wanted a dark coloured one but the sales girl convinced me that It would be very dull so she showed me a couple of beautiful blue ones. They also have a wide range of sizes from XS to 10XL. I saw many other people flood into the shop to make purchased for themselves as well as their kids. When we were making payments for out outfits, the sales girls give us instructions on how to wash and maintain the kebaya, truly this is service from the heart, I could tell they love their job.

They also have a range of Peranakan styled fashion accessories in their displays as well as intricately beaded shoes. I found that the cost of the items in the store to be very reasonable. If you happen to be in Kampong Glam,

My Wedding Journey 13- Singapore Professional Emcee For Weddings - Sweet Bunny

I was firm when it came to deciding on hiring an emcee for the wedding banquet as I didn’t want to put my friends on the spot to read from a script which sometimes can get pretty awkward. I have been to banquets where you have the emcees randomly popping in and disappearing or worst forgetting their script and going off the point.

Skills of an emcee -A professional emcee is able to gauge the mood of the guest, keep the flow of the event smoothly as well as keeping track of time. All in which are highly important skills in hosting which are needed for a successful event.

Bilingual masters of ceremonies – I prefer to have just one emcee instead of 2, so an emcee that is bilingual in both Mandarin for dear’s side of the family and in English for my side of the family would be great. Being able to switch smoothly from Mandarin and English without repeating the same phrases in both languages is truly skilled.

How to find the best freelance emcee in Singapore -
I found that many other emcees charge at a very high rate perhaps due to their popularity . There are a couple of emcee agencies in Singapore namely Merry Bees, https://emceelester.com/ etc., try to get a reputable company who has google reviews as I feel that they would have better accountability of their standards. I found my emcee on Carousell her username is eventemcee1 her name is Felicia, she had many good reviews and I was very impressed that many indicated that she was very helpful and always went out of her way to help out during the event. I found that her charges were very reasonable.

I arranged to meet up with Felicia where we discussed the details of the event. She was very professional she gave us some sample scripts and said that she would get back to us in two weeks’ time with her script for our banquet. After going over the script and settling on the final details we paid her 50% of the total bill the other 50% was to be paid after the event or on the day itself.

Felicia also assisted with speaking with the banquet manager at the hotel to let him know what was needed at a certain time. The banquet concluded at 10pm sharp without a hitch all thanks to Felicia. All my guest left the banquet to seem to enjoy themselves greatly even the kids who had a great time blowing bubbles when Felicia challenged them to blow more bubbles during our walk-in. I did away with the second walk in as I found it unnecessary Felicia always took cues to what we wanted and seamlessly make the evening flow well.

Felicia was an amazing, friendly, amusing host for our wedding dinner banquet. She was proactive in coming up with ideas for our "love telepathy game" during the banquet and was very humorous as well, the guests enjoyed her jokes. Seamlessly switching between English and Mandarin, Felicia is an eloquent host as well, creating an atmosphere that was both fun and classy.

My Wedding Journey 11- Wedding Props for the wedding banquet - Sweet Bunny

I had an acquaintance who invited me for their wedding at the Venus ballroom at Furama Riverfront about a year before my own wedding. I took notice of the hotel decorations on our table and found them to be rusty and old fashion like something from the 80s, odd yellowish pearls and all. No way was I having those being displayed on my guest tables.

Wedding centrepieces and wedding decoration – I purchased the white baby’s breath from https://www.carousell.sg/raf.rohmini/. They were originally made for door gifts but I felt that they were easy to add and remove from the tables for a Chinese style dinner. The owner of the store was always very patient, kind and thoughtful when I arranged for the flowers to be delivered the night before she shared her concerned on the flowers being fresh enough for my wedding dinner. I clarified to her that I had a church wedding in the morning and won’t be able to collect the flowers then. I also ordered stickers from her for my guest to stick on their angbaos, for ease of sorting out those for the bride and those for the Groom. She did a fabulous job. To my surprise, my guest commented that my flowers smelled like lovely the scent covered the musky smell of that carpets another awesome reason to buy flowers from raf.rohmini.

In addition, I bought adorable figurines of rabbits from Taobao to be placed on the tables for the guest to take home. They were just adorable.

Wedding banquet table center piece

How to keep kids happy and entertain during the wedding dinner – I have often seen kids running around aimlessly or bugging their parents all throughout the wedding. I wanted the kids at my wedding dinner to enjoy them so I bought bottles of bubbles for them to blow throughout the dinner. To ensure the bubble was not out of place I made a sign that stated that they were blowing bubbles of blessings for us. My emcee got the entire guest to blow bubbles at us when we entered and during the Toasting or Yum Seng session that kids went near the stage to blow bubbles at us on their own accord, everyone found that so endearing. In case you were wondering Yum Seng means to drink to victory in Cantonese. Do seek permission from the hotel or venue owners before you purchase the bubbles every venue has rules and regulations.

Vintage looking Letterbox as an ang bao box- Ordered a white letterbox from Taobao and found it to be befitting of an angpao box. I loved that it had a lock and a flip cover to conceal the red packets within it. It fitted in with my garden-themed wedding nicely.

Daiso figures as deco – Daiso is an excellent place to get figurines, I purchased mini crates and grass rabbits for my reception table. The key to having a nice display is placing items at different heights. The crates when sacked upon are pretty eye-catching, the also doubles up as containers for papers for guest to write well wishes or for you to store pens in.

My Wedding Journey 10 - Bridesmaid and Groomsmen Gifts - Sweet Bunny

I have always felt that it is important to convey to others on how much you appreciate them. It is easy to overlook and take for granted the little things people do for you. In appreciation for all the help my Groomsmen and Bridesmaid have provided dear and myself, I prepared a token of appreciation for both groups. I know bridesmaid proposals are on the rage these days but one must not forget the awesome Groomsmen. No need la men no need to be pampered like girls, you might say; but to me, a little gesture of thanks had never hurt anyone has it?

Dear and I arrange different dates to meet up with our Groomsmen and Bridesmaid separately for a guy’s afternoon out and for me a Hens party arranged by one of my Bridesmaid, I felt that was the most appropriate occasion to pass them their gifts. I spent quite a number of days deciding on what would be best as gifts for them and finally decided on shot glasses for the guys as mementoes and a gift bag for the ladies.

If you ever asked me where I love shopping for unique gifts I would instantly tell you Etsy. It is the best platform to get handcrafted, delicately made items and what more in a way you are supporting a small business of the arts community.

Best Groomsmen’s gifts on Etsy – The shot glasses got for the guys were from this shop One19stationery, the seller was very attentive and write me a couple of messages about my preferences on how the names should appear. The boxes she provided had all been specially customised for the Groomsmen with their names. What I loved most were the tiny tuxedos that were meant to be stuck on to vodka bottled, just adorable. Shipping took about a week or so and everything was well-packed nothing arrived broken or squashed.

Groomsmen Meetup

Best affordable and useful Bridesmaid gifts – In the gift bag for my bridesmaids, I prepared a pink robe with the sister of the bride written on it, I got it via Taobao. I totally regretted not ironing or steamed them haha they came all wrinkled. I also added in facemask from Innisfree, A sewing kit, plasters for blisters, makeup remover, a full set of nail cutters and files and much other stuff the ladies would need for the actual day.

My Bridesmaids and Groomsmen are all wonderful helpful people. The Groomsmen are fathers of young children and one is a father to be, to take an entire day off to assist dear and I on our wedding day meant the world to us. One of my bridesmaids who worked on Saturday even took the day off a year in advance. Dear and I treated them to a nice meal on another occasion, Always remember to be a blessing to others as they have been to you. One of the Groomsmen mentioned that he wished he gave his Groomsmen a gift during his wedding; he was deeply touched that I took the time and made the effort to show my appreciation.

My Wedding Journey 9 - Where to get beautiful and affordable wedding invitations - Sweet Bunny

When it was time to get the wedding invitations done, I had a dilemma I could either save cost and use the Invitations provided by the hotel’s vendor or spend a sum to get a nicer non-traditional invitation made. I went with the latter because having a church wedding meant that I would need 2 invitations for 2 different venues.

I wasn’t satisfied with the invitation cards the hotel provided and the fact of adding an additional simple graphic would cost me $10. I felt it was very templated and I wasn’t too crazy about a super red invitation although it was cultural and auspicious.

Printing wedding mass booklets - I began my search online and contacted a few local artist and vendors the price range was usually $1000.00 for 300 cards plus design work. Some companies don’t even bother replying my enquiry while others patiently answer my questions. I also approached a printing shop named Print and Repair, they introduced me to https://www.greetingsisland.com/ where there were many beautiful designs that you could use for free with their watermark behind the card. I used this site for the covers of my church booklets for a fee of $30.00 the alignments of the text were adjusted by page for me the total cost of 70 booklets was only $121.00 with glossy paper. They even sent me a video clip of the completed booklet being flipped to check if all was in order. I highly recommend https://printrepair.sg/ for their excellent service and quality printing.

Mass Booklet

Affordable wedding invitation card from China - Sorry, I seem to have gone off track with my church booklet; anyway I decided to print my invitations in china. https://dorishomecard.com/ was the website that I used; it was excellent that they were able to type my invitations in mandarin. My mother in law helped us write on red paper the invitation details in mandarin as I was not able to haha. My English is much better than my Mandarin. All I had to do with send Doris, the map and other details and she sends me the artwork for corrections. This process took a week and I received my cards a week later. Doris was very persistent in ensuring I gave her the best quality map so that my invitations would be printed out nicely. I would defiantly give her and her team an A for initiative and customer service. She even took a video of her staff packing the card to ensure they did not miss out on anything and always double-checking with me on the colours I wanted. Being a finicky person I do tend to change my mind a few times, they were very obliging.

I was given Envelopes, stickers, ribbons and 3 printed sheets for the invitations to slot into the card; I found the invitation beautiful and nonconventional. It came in lovely burgundy flowers and a pink envelope. Yes… my relatives advised me to stick with the colour red but at least it was not in a shocking red colour. The invitation was printed on semi sparkly paper adding a touch of glisten to the card. They even provided double-sided tape for me to stick the invitation on the side of the open card. What I love most was the option to slot in the church invitation slip for guest who I would be inviting to my wedding ceremony. I also liked the fact that they gave you the flexibility to add additional pages like for my church invitation slipped I wanted it to have blue flowers instead of the red ones which came in the burgundy set.

I highly recommend Doris Home as a wedding supplier for invitation cards, image, all in all, it only cost me SGD $450.00, inclusive of the envelopes which some vendors don’t even provide.

My Wedding Journey 8 - Our Catholic Church Wedding - Sweet Bunny

Church of St Vincent De Paul

I am Catholic and dear isn't so we had a discussion and he agreed with getting married at church. He knew my religion was very important to me and had always been very supportive and respectful about it. It is always important to know how your other half feels communication is indeed the key.

In order to get married in a Catholic Church, one person has to be Catholic, either the wife or the husband. It is also compulsory to complete a weekend of Catholic Engaged Encounter or Marriage Preparation Course over 6 weeks. Being mentally and spiritually prepared before uniting as one is paramount for a successful marriage after all weddings are for a day but a marriage is for a lifetime.

Dear and I opted to go for the Catholic Engaged Encounter at the marriage encounter house in Punggol, we booked a place a year in advance as the course was very popular and is almost always fully booked. Going for the course 6 months before your wedding day is recommended. My dad assisted me with writing a cheque as he wanted to give the course to us as part of his wedding gift. I mailed the deposit to the address given by Engaged Encounter office via email.

During the camp, we were advised not to share our experiences explicitly as it is for the benefit of other couples who will be attending CEE, so I will just briefly state that it was a very memorable weekend for me as dear and I spilt our hearts out and shared our thoughts and expectations of each other.

In a nutshell, the course was very thorough and informative. I reflected on my faith and it gave dear a better understanding of the catholic view on marriage. I, in turn, have learned that the marriage dear and I have is a non-sacramental natural marriage and that the promise we make to each other and to god is beyond just a legal marriage but a spiritual one as we are a sign of God's love for his church, therefore, we should make God the centre of our relationship.

Before the camp, I was fearful about what my roommate would be like I know this should be the least of my worries but spending 2 evenings sharing a room with a complete stranger was scary to me. What amazes me was our roommates were very similar to us. Ladies stayed on one level of the building while gentleman on another.

engage encounter

My roommate turned out to be a very nice lady we became friends and still keep in touch till this day the best part is our wedding dates were only a week apart. For dear, his roommate turned out to be a friend of a friend from university who is Catholic. God does work in mysterious ways and always blesses us and provides us with what we need and can handle.

On our Wedding Day at Church – There were butterflies in my tummy throughout the whole morning before the wedding service. I could tell dear was nervous too by the way he held my hand.

My bridesmaids and the ring bearer, walked down the aisle first followed by Daddy and me. He was impatient as usual asking me why I was walking so slowly he quickens up the pace down the aisle before handing dear my hand, perhaps he was nervous too.

The choir sang beautifully. My sisters were the lectors while my mom in law and dad were our witnesses. Dear’s groomsman were all very supportive and helpful and did their best even this being the first catholic wedding that they attended. We said our vows and were man and wife.

I really have to thank my sisters and the Parish Secretary Gerard for helping me to organise the wedding, from booking the date and time and the venues to arranging the church florist and mass booklets. Gerard guided me throughout the entire event with so much kindness, patients and helpfulness. Father Eugene as well for being my celebrant and for always being so kind, patient, understanding and so filled with reverence guiding us on how the service should go and correcting the mass booklet to perfection.

The ceremony went smoothly ending with photo taking with family and friends and catered lunch in the canteen. I am glad that our wedding day turned out as planned in a simple and modest way reaching a milestone of our lives together.

My Wedding Journey 7 - Prewedding Shoot with Cang Ai in Singapore - Sweet Bunny

Pre-wedding shoot gowns and suit - The final fitting of my gowns and dear's suits for our pre-wedding photography was done a couple of days before to ensure that everything fitted well. I had lost a couple of inches and a quick of adjustment had to be done. Xiao Ting also assigned my make-up artist to me, Christine Tan who contacted me the same evening via WhatsApp. Xiao Ting also took note on what kind of feel we would like for our photos, props to be used etc. She asked us a series of questions and I just told her we wanted a very simple photoshoot, filled with nature.

On the day of my pre-wedding shoot, it rained very heavily. Naturally dear and I was pretty upset but the show had to go on... With the help of my younger sister, we had a very eventful day.

Professional Bridal makeup and hairstylist -Although I wasn't given any trial make-up session, my makeup artist was Christine Tan; I cannot express how thankful I am to her. She began the morning session by asking a couple of questions and gauges the kind of style that would suit you. We paid extra for her to accompany us out throughout the day, it was totally worth it. She went above and beyond her duty, showed me on ways to pose, and adjusted my gown for me as well as assisting the photographer when needed. She is a very kind lady and I like that my makeup turned out very natural. Very experienced and dedicated in her craft. She wanted to give dear a Korean look, haha and I would say she did a pretty good job.

Pre-wedding photographer from Cang Ai Wedding - Mr Nian, a gentleman from Taiwan was my photographer, he speaks mostly in mandarin and a couple of English phrases here and there when I couldn't understand what I was supposed to do ha-ha. He was very friendly and professional; you could tell that he was having a good time as he cracked a couple of jokes or chit-chatted with us on our transport. Most importantly the photos that he took were all very natural nothing too posed, exactly what I wanted.

Due to the heavy downpour, we opted to do our studio shoots first, the 3 story shophouse had many props, and we had to go to 2 different levels for different backgrounds and furniture. Christine helped me changed into different gowns. She also styled dear's hair and ensured his suit was neat.

Getting Transport for your pre-wedding shoot – Xiao Ting arranged Transport for us but due to a heavy downpour, she cancelled it to help us save cost, I wonder how much cost that would be. We ended up getting Grab cabs as and when we needed for the 2 reminding venues.

Both my venues were outdoors, a cafe near the shop and the gardens by the bay were suggested to me due to the weather but I insisted on the venues I had chosen. I was glad we stuck to our choices because the rain did subside towards the evening, our photos turn out very natural and beautiful. Our guest at the wedding thought that we travelled overseas for our shoot, a huge unexpected bonus.

My Wedding Journey 6 - Selecting Venues for Pre-Wedding Shoot in Singapore - Sweet Bunny

In my pre-wedding package, I was given 2 locations for outdoor shoots and 1 indoor studio shoot.

When you have a pre-wedding shoot coordinator who is very inflexible and a wet blanket you have to get creative with the locations of your wedding photoshoot.

Xiao Ting practically cancelled out every venue we requested and kept pushing for fort canning park. I was so angry with her at one point that I blasted that it is a graveyard for goodness sake. Lower Peirce Reservoir she said if we didn’t know the exact location it would be difficult for the driver.  Coney Island she said it would be difficult long walk … Garden Asia, too far not possible.  I wondered then how was it possible for the couples in her samples to go to all these places for a photo shoot in the first place?

Yet, it was a blessing in disguise. It was raining cats and dogs on the day of my photoshoot, but that story is to be told in another post...

Toa Payoh Park, forgotten place for prewedding photoshoots -  I have to thank The Smart Locals for writing about the park, I just adored the bridges at first sight of the photos of them very charming. It so happens that it was a popular spot for prewedding photos to be taken back in the 1970s. The park was also a "testing ground" for building a Japanese styled park before they started on The Japanese Gardens in Jurong. I took a bus down one Sunday afternoon and the park was bustling with maids on their day off having a picnic they played music and were dancing. I was pretty tempted to join in their fun, I am glad that our parks were put to good use there for everyone to enjoy. It was kept very clean as everyone cleaned up after themselves. My wedding shoot would take place on a weekday so it would be less crowded.

Mount Faber is a pre-wedding shoot location - I love the rainbow staircase and the lush greenery of the hilltop. Cable cars gracefully gliding by and who would forget The iconic bell of happiness but beware if you are not holding your wedding with Arbora Hilltop Dining you would have to fork out $800.00 for a photo with the bells the best part is none of this information is indicated on the companies' website.

Initially, I wanted to hire a vendor to set up a picnic site for my wedding shoot, but I was against the idea in the end because we wanted more natural photographers nothing too posed planned and faked. We didn't even bother to get any props somehow I felt they were a bit cheesy to each it's own.

I apologise if my post sounded angry, it's just the reality of wedding planning, not everything goes your way but sometimes it may be a blessing in disguise. Just enjoy the process, someday when you look back you will laugh at all the misadventures and decisions that you had to face as I often do now.
