My Wedding Journey 16- Actual Day Wedding All in one package Photography and Videography, Gate Crash Games- Sweet Bunny

My father passed in August this year, I felt very blessed to have taken photos and videos with him on my wedding day. Watching and looking at the photographs of him do bring on tears at times but it was a good way to have a little memento of him being around to walk down the aisle with me.

Invest in a professional and affordable videographer and photographer - I wanted a no-frills wedding photography service that might not have aerial drone photography a whole entire team etc. What was most essential is a non- earthquake videographer who won’t lose all the precious moments captured and a photographer who take various beautiful photos even in the dim lights of the wedding banquet. I found all that with Simon Video & Photo Service

My Wedding Journey 17 - Hen Party JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La and Bridesmaid dress shopping - Sweet Bunny

My maid of honour treated me to a staycation at JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La. We had a good relaxing time catching up and hanging out at the pool, pretending to live the Tai Tai lifestyle.

Best hotel for a bridal staycation in Singapore –stayed in the Club Room which had a mini kitchen equipped with bright yellow SMEG fridge and a microwave. I love the fact that the room is divided with a sliding door separating the sleeping areas from the living room/pantry. Although there isn’t a balcony I felt that the room was cosy enough as it was tastefully decorated.

There is a very nice view of the Tanglin district; most notable would be the Tourism Court building. Food is provided with all day, 6:30am to 11:00am for breakfast, free-flow wine, beer and Cocktails and canapes from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, My party and I decided not to go out for dinner but to spend a cosy evening at the lounge the food provided was delicious and adequate enough for a hearty meal, local dishes and chicken wings were served in the evening. Be spoiled for choice when it comes to beverages, complimentary all-day coffee, tea, bottled juices, and canned drinks. The staffs at the lounge were always very polite and consistently offered refills for our drinks or checked if we required anything it a very delightful and comforting experience.

Best Buffet Breakfast at J65 Restaurant for a full breakfast buffet – the next day before the end of our stay we headed down to J65 Restaurant for a delightful breakfast buffet, there was a wide range of Indian, Chinese as well as western breakfast being served. What was most memorable about the establishment to me was not only the delicious food but also the warm and friendly staff. The chef preparing out omelettes smiled and cracked a couple of jokes with us. His cheery ways was indeed a delightful way to begin your day.

Balloons for a wedding hen party - In addition, my maid of honour decorated our room with balloons and even bought me a bouquet of roses. I was very touched that she placed so much effort in organising this staycation on top of helping me coordinate my wedding.

Goodies bags for bridesmaids – I prepared a goodies bag for my bridesmaid, more details are written in this post. I also purchased robes from Tao bao for them, wished I had the time to iron the robes, it would have looked much better without the wrinkles. My dear friend and sister were as written on the robes my sister because I knew I could always count on them through thick and thin to weather any storm.

Bride and birdesmaids

A hen party need not be a crazy night out in the town, catching up with the girls and watching a movie could also be as enjoyable.

My stay was in September 2019, apologies for the very delayed post.

My Wedding Journey 13- Singapore Professional Emcee For Weddings - Sweet Bunny

I was firm when it came to deciding on hiring an emcee for the wedding banquet as I didn’t want to put my friends on the spot to read from a script which sometimes can get pretty awkward. I have been to banquets where you have the emcees randomly popping in and disappearing or worst forgetting their script and going off the point.

Skills of an emcee -A professional emcee is able to gauge the mood of the guest, keep the flow of the event smoothly as well as keeping track of time. All in which are highly important skills in hosting which are needed for a successful event.

Bilingual masters of ceremonies – I prefer to have just one emcee instead of 2, so an emcee that is bilingual in both Mandarin for dear’s side of the family and in English for my side of the family would be great. Being able to switch smoothly from Mandarin and English without repeating the same phrases in both languages is truly skilled.

How to find the best freelance emcee in Singapore -
I found that many other emcees charge at a very high rate perhaps due to their popularity . There are a couple of emcee agencies in Singapore namely Merry Bees, https://emceelester.com/ etc., try to get a reputable company who has google reviews as I feel that they would have better accountability of their standards. I found my emcee on Carousell her username is eventemcee1 her name is Felicia, she had many good reviews and I was very impressed that many indicated that she was very helpful and always went out of her way to help out during the event. I found that her charges were very reasonable.

I arranged to meet up with Felicia where we discussed the details of the event. She was very professional she gave us some sample scripts and said that she would get back to us in two weeks’ time with her script for our banquet. After going over the script and settling on the final details we paid her 50% of the total bill the other 50% was to be paid after the event or on the day itself.

Felicia also assisted with speaking with the banquet manager at the hotel to let him know what was needed at a certain time. The banquet concluded at 10pm sharp without a hitch all thanks to Felicia. All my guest left the banquet to seem to enjoy themselves greatly even the kids who had a great time blowing bubbles when Felicia challenged them to blow more bubbles during our walk-in. I did away with the second walk in as I found it unnecessary Felicia always took cues to what we wanted and seamlessly make the evening flow well.

Felicia was an amazing, friendly, amusing host for our wedding dinner banquet. She was proactive in coming up with ideas for our "love telepathy game" during the banquet and was very humorous as well, the guests enjoyed her jokes. Seamlessly switching between English and Mandarin, Felicia is an eloquent host as well, creating an atmosphere that was both fun and classy.

My Wedding Journey 7 - Prewedding Shoot with Cang Ai in Singapore - Sweet Bunny

Pre-wedding shoot gowns and suit - The final fitting of my gowns and dear's suits for our pre-wedding photography was done a couple of days before to ensure that everything fitted well. I had lost a couple of inches and a quick of adjustment had to be done. Xiao Ting also assigned my make-up artist to me, Christine Tan who contacted me the same evening via WhatsApp. Xiao Ting also took note on what kind of feel we would like for our photos, props to be used etc. She asked us a series of questions and I just told her we wanted a very simple photoshoot, filled with nature.

On the day of my pre-wedding shoot, it rained very heavily. Naturally dear and I was pretty upset but the show had to go on... With the help of my younger sister, we had a very eventful day.

Professional Bridal makeup and hairstylist -Although I wasn't given any trial make-up session, my makeup artist was Christine Tan; I cannot express how thankful I am to her. She began the morning session by asking a couple of questions and gauges the kind of style that would suit you. We paid extra for her to accompany us out throughout the day, it was totally worth it. She went above and beyond her duty, showed me on ways to pose, and adjusted my gown for me as well as assisting the photographer when needed. She is a very kind lady and I like that my makeup turned out very natural. Very experienced and dedicated in her craft. She wanted to give dear a Korean look, haha and I would say she did a pretty good job.

Pre-wedding photographer from Cang Ai Wedding - Mr Nian, a gentleman from Taiwan was my photographer, he speaks mostly in mandarin and a couple of English phrases here and there when I couldn't understand what I was supposed to do ha-ha. He was very friendly and professional; you could tell that he was having a good time as he cracked a couple of jokes or chit-chatted with us on our transport. Most importantly the photos that he took were all very natural nothing too posed, exactly what I wanted.

Due to the heavy downpour, we opted to do our studio shoots first, the 3 story shophouse had many props, and we had to go to 2 different levels for different backgrounds and furniture. Christine helped me changed into different gowns. She also styled dear's hair and ensured his suit was neat.

Getting Transport for your pre-wedding shoot – Xiao Ting arranged Transport for us but due to a heavy downpour, she cancelled it to help us save cost, I wonder how much cost that would be. We ended up getting Grab cabs as and when we needed for the 2 reminding venues.

Both my venues were outdoors, a cafe near the shop and the gardens by the bay were suggested to me due to the weather but I insisted on the venues I had chosen. I was glad we stuck to our choices because the rain did subside towards the evening, our photos turn out very natural and beautiful. Our guest at the wedding thought that we travelled overseas for our shoot, a huge unexpected bonus.

My Wedding Journey 6 - Selecting Venues for Pre-Wedding Shoot in Singapore - Sweet Bunny

In my pre-wedding package, I was given 2 locations for outdoor shoots and 1 indoor studio shoot.

When you have a pre-wedding shoot coordinator who is very inflexible and a wet blanket you have to get creative with the locations of your wedding photoshoot.

Xiao Ting practically cancelled out every venue we requested and kept pushing for fort canning park. I was so angry with her at one point that I blasted that it is a graveyard for goodness sake. Lower Peirce Reservoir she said if we didn’t know the exact location it would be difficult for the driver.  Coney Island she said it would be difficult long walk … Garden Asia, too far not possible.  I wondered then how was it possible for the couples in her samples to go to all these places for a photo shoot in the first place?

Yet, it was a blessing in disguise. It was raining cats and dogs on the day of my photoshoot, but that story is to be told in another post...

Toa Payoh Park, forgotten place for prewedding photoshoots -  I have to thank The Smart Locals for writing about the park, I just adored the bridges at first sight of the photos of them very charming. It so happens that it was a popular spot for prewedding photos to be taken back in the 1970s. The park was also a "testing ground" for building a Japanese styled park before they started on The Japanese Gardens in Jurong. I took a bus down one Sunday afternoon and the park was bustling with maids on their day off having a picnic they played music and were dancing. I was pretty tempted to join in their fun, I am glad that our parks were put to good use there for everyone to enjoy. It was kept very clean as everyone cleaned up after themselves. My wedding shoot would take place on a weekday so it would be less crowded.

Mount Faber is a pre-wedding shoot location - I love the rainbow staircase and the lush greenery of the hilltop. Cable cars gracefully gliding by and who would forget The iconic bell of happiness but beware if you are not holding your wedding with Arbora Hilltop Dining you would have to fork out $800.00 for a photo with the bells the best part is none of this information is indicated on the companies' website.

Initially, I wanted to hire a vendor to set up a picnic site for my wedding shoot, but I was against the idea in the end because we wanted more natural photographers nothing too posed planned and faked. We didn't even bother to get any props somehow I felt they were a bit cheesy to each it's own.

I apologise if my post sounded angry, it's just the reality of wedding planning, not everything goes your way but sometimes it may be a blessing in disguise. Just enjoy the process, someday when you look back you will laugh at all the misadventures and decisions that you had to face as I often do now.

My Wedding Journey 5 - Cang-Ai Wedding Prewedding and Actual Day Package - Sweet Bunny

I got to know about Cang AI Wedding during my search on bridal studios on google maps. They had many positive reviews with many of their clients raving about their pre-wedding photos. I too was impressed by the beautiful photos and decided to head down with dear to the bridal studio which is located in Tanjong Pagar.

After signing my wedding venue package with Furama River Front dear and I headed to Cang Ai Wedding. I must say I am very impressed by their sales team. They are very efficient; one message on Facebook messenger was all it took to get an appointment on the same afternoon.

My coordinator was Xiao Ting, from the beginning she wasn’t pleased with the amount that we had budgeted for the pre-wedding and actual day she kept pushing us to go overseas for our wedding shot when we insisted that we would like to have it done locally. Luckily for us, manager 林 overheard us and came over to put together a package that was within our budget.

She was adorable, very motherly. She slowly states all the items we would require for both our pre-wedding shoot and actual day and asked if we were comfortable with the amount that would be charged.

Xiao Ting’s face got blacker and blacker, I guess it would affect her commission from then on she never recommended us any other services that Chang Ai provided. However, she is pretty responsible she keep following up with WhatsApp messages on when we would like our photoshoot to be taken and when we would like to meet up. That was the reason I didn't request a change of coordinator.

Our pre-wedding and actual day package consisted of the following items:

1) For pre-wedding: 3 gowns for me and 2 suits for dear. 3 locations.

2) For an actual day – 2 gowns 1 Kua and 1 suit. We topped up for another suit for dear about a year closer to our wedding date. A small bouquet of flowers, wedding car deco and boutonniere were also part of the package.

3) Pre-wedding makeup artist and actual day makeup artist.

                                                   Cang-AI Wedding

We signed the wedding package - mainly because they provided a Kua and I loved the photography work which isn’t the typical cookie-cutter scene. Manager 林has also gave me confidence in Cang Ai Wedding as the company is established in Taiwan their headquarters, Japan and Hong Kong.

The staff mainly speaks mandarin, after all, they are a Taiwanese company. All the documents are written in Chinese as well but thankfully dear is better versed in the language then I am.

The first gown fitting session - was an unpleasant experience for me. I am more on the curvy side and I am a very conservative person stripping down to the bare essentials is not an easy task for me to do. Xiao Ting shot her colleague a look of disgust when she was helping me dress, I found that very unprofessional. I hated it when she used her elbows to adjust my breast in the gowns too. I was assigned Agnes for the rest of my fitting after I gave feedback and a death stare to Xiao Ting, she should bear in mind that there are mirrors and clients can see you at every angle.
I was quite upset that I didn’t get the long-sleeved gowns I requested during the signing of the packages and had to remind her again. The gown selection was also pretty limited not much to choose from but we managed to pick a white gown, a pink one and a purple one. For the suits, dear picked a grey and blue one. We were due to return after they made adjustments to the clothing.

I’ve learned that most of the gowns were all of the sweetheart cutting; I guess is for ease of alteration. Not everyone can pull off such a look but I am glad that they had given me the long sleeves that I requested in the form of a removable laced jacket.

Looking back if you asked me if I regretted choosing this company right away and not going to other bridal studios, I would say no overall the service was good and when my wedding car driver was 3 hours late they waited patiently for the car to arrive. Also, I liked the fact that their older gowns were sold off or used for outdoor shoots, the newer ones were being reserved for the actual day. I have been to a wedding where the bride’s gown was pretty ragged and old not something I would like to portray at my wedding. Cang AI's gowns are also designed and made in Taiwan and I do say that I liked Taiwanese fashion.

My Wedding Journey 4- Furama Riverfront Our Wedding Banquet Choice - Sweet Bunny

From the beginning of our wedding planning, darling and I agreed that we would like to hold our wedding banquet at a hotel for the reason that we were the first from our families to get married and also for the comfort of our elderly relatives who were also more traditional.

Wedding banquets are a great way to celebrate tying the knot but do keep in mind that it comes with a hefty price tag, here are some things you would like to keep in mind while planning the celebratory lunch or dinner.

The high cost of wedding banquets in SingaporeYear upon year the prices have been increasing per table, aside from the ideals of high ceilings and pillar-less ballrooms, the cost was the biggest factor for us. I wanted a package that had the best frills, such as free-flow alcohol and hotels stay for us as well as for our bridesmaids. It really helps when you list down your wants for the event and discuss with your partner what you really can make do without.

Deciding the number of tables for your wedding banquet Yes it is tempting to invite the entire kampong but the question is will everyone turn up? Never expect the ang pao to foot the bill it is a very risky assumption. Keep your guest list to close friends and family. For darlings and my case, 30 individuals did not turn up for the event but thankfully we have many generous guests. We chose to have about 20 tables with 1 reserve.

Furama Riverfront a dear friend’s brother held his wedding at the location and she shared that the service was good. The hotel which is located at 405 Havelock Rd, Singapore 169633, met all our requirements and as well as our budget.

Why we chose the Mercury Ballroom at Furama Riverfront

Pros

· The Mercury ballroom on Level 5 could accommodate from 25 to 34 Tables.

· It has a nice view of the forest on one side and on the other, a poolside decorated with fairy lights that light up at night on the other.

· A lift also goes directly to the ballroom there was also more privacy in the indoor foyer area compared to the Venus Ballroom which is shared amongst the Jupiter ballrooms.

Con

· The downside was the low ceiling and many pillars but the 3 projector screens made up for it. The price was right and the hotel was able to accommodate to our 21 tables so we sealed the deal.

Attractive Budget-Friendly Wedding Banquet by Furama Riverfront The management has really pulled out all the stops, from free-flow alcohol, hotels stay for us as well as for our bridesmaids, door gifts, even a mini dim sum buffet for your guest before the wedding begins. We couldn’t ask for more, it was indeed all we needed.

In House Bakery At Furama Hotel  Artisan cakes have been on the rage lately and I didn’t like the idea of cutting into a Styrofoam cake. Furama Riverfront has it very own in house bakery and was able to provide us with a real one that was another huge plus for me. I didn’t mind forking out a bit more money for the cake that my guest would enjoy without the hassle of making a logistical arrangement with an outside vendor.

Their speciality cake is their chocolate cake which will be given to you in its 1 kg form as part of the package.

Apologies for the sliced up cake, haha my Mother in Law Couldn't wait to have a slice before we took a photo.
My hubby and I went greedy mama haha when we found out haha.

There you go our reasons for picking Furama Riverfront, I hope the information helped you in some way in deciding your venue. Happy Planning!

My Wedding Journey 3 - Save On Wedding Decor With DIY Crafts - Sweet Bunny

garden partition and lamp jar

Photo album display table décor I guess every wedding in Singapore has a table where the venue be it a hotel or country club provides you to display your photo album or memorabilia. There are many companies offering services for themed setups but if you are like me and would like to save a pretty penny, crafting is the way to go.

I have to say that I am a real nut when it comes to working on crafts; needless to say, I was yearning to create a few pieces for my wedding decoration a year before the actual day. My brain had its creative juices running and my hands were trembling to begin.

Pick simple to do yet stylish projects for your wedding – My youngest sister came across a beautiful picture of a glass jar lamp with a silhouette of a rabbit on Pinterest. I instantly fall in love with this simple yet elegant decorative item. I also came up with an idea to create a mini fence partition out of items bought from Daiso. Just adding fairy lights to these items, jazzes up any decorative set-up.

When choosing a project, I always kept in mind what I am capable of to avoid disappointments when my artwork is not up to standard and also not to waste money and materials. Yes as the saying goes if you never try you will never know but, I am on cost-saving mode at the moment.

Sourcing for cheap craft materialsI always felt that crafting materials need not be expensive, with a little creativity a simple Jar from Fariprice extra which cost $2.00 or items such as rice paper, decoupage glue and varnish from Daiso would work just as well. Also, look of for stuff you have lying around the house just could be made into something new.

Simple deco ideas and crafts I made.

Silhouette jar for wedding decoration – This project is very simple, what I did was print out the design using my HP top load printer on rice paper then stick the rice paper on to the jar using PVA glue/ White Glue. You may also use mod podge which is a better decoupage medium. Another method is printing out the silhouette on paper and using an art knife to cut it out and stick it inside the jar. Needless to say, I wasn’t very competent with the art knife so sticking my cutout outside the jar did the job for me. Lastly, use white paint and paint it on to the jar to give it an opaque feel.

print out on rice paper

Mini fence partition – In every display I always felt that having a backdrop is important, knowing that my hotel is rather dimly lit, I wanted to lighten up the place, while browsing in Daiso in a novena, I came across these adorable Mini fence partitions and instantaneously an idea struck me. I purchased tiny door hinges and some vines. Initially, I wanted to screw in the door hinges but my father advised me to glue them on instead as the wood was rather thin and screwing in the nails would warp the wood. I then wound and twine in the leafy wines into the partitions of the wooden frame alone with fairy lights. The structure can stand on its own, switch on the fairy light and wow la you have a dazzling backdrop.

Photo frames as tabletop signage
- Photo frames come in all sorts of designs and designs, they also make very good tabletop signatures for guest books, snacks and other gifts you would like to offer your guest. Just slip in the printout text into the frames instead of photographs, it is as simple yet as classy as that.

Have fun crafting! I sure had fun doing my crafts a year before my wedding … Talk about being kiasu.

My Wedding Journey 2 - How To Pick The Right Wedding Vendors - Sweet Bunny

These days we are spoiled for choice with vendors who cater to all your wedding needs but just how should we go about selecting the right vendors for your special day? Here are some guidelines you may find useful.

Where to find reliable wedding vendors reviews A year before my wedding I became a dayre/ blogger stalker, I googled every vendor that caught my eye and researched on the reviews given by many wonderful ladies who gladly shared their experiences on their blogs. They shared about: Wedding invitation designs and Bridal Studios, Hotels, Dowry items etc. I also found that forums also provide a wealth of information on individual vendors, but some tend to be a little outdated so do try to be mindful on when each post is dated.

Locating the best bridal studios in Singapore - with Google maps - After reading all the blog and forum reviews, I was not convinced keen on choosing the more popular studios as their gowns were not to my liking. Businesses listed on google all have a review section, where you could look thru and judge for yourself if they are authentic or not. When you use the keywords such as bridal, bridal studio and wedding on google maps, a whole range of bridal studios will appear in the search results.

Bridal studio google map

In these results, information such their opening hours, websites and most importantly a virtual tour which provides a glance of the exterior of the bridal studios, this function is a time saver. You don’t have to go down to each and every one; you can eliminate those that have many bad reviews and list down those that really caught your eye and as a bonus get to know another bridal studio that isn’t as popular but provide good service, do compare notes to unsponsored blog post and forums to really get down and scrutinize their service standards.
reviews ratings

Using Carousel to source for vendors Some may describe the app as Carouhell but to me it is a treasure trove of home-based vendors selling flower, for a table centerpiece, designers for labels and stickers, budget printers for church booklets, when cost savings is your game you may also consider getting pre-loved wedding deco, if the items are in great condition and are used only once, a great way to go green as well less waste is always great for the environment. Just ensure that the vendors you pick have good reviews to lower your chances of face disappointments.

Carousell

Popular wedding websites and wedding magazine online
Online magazines such as Her World Bridal Magazine ,  Female Magazine Bridal and Blissful BrideMagazine provide a great source of bridal articles online on a regular basis, from the photographs they usually state the vendors being featured. They also exclusively share on the different wedding venues so you can get a sense on the feel of the location. Wedding websites, on the other hand, have vendors paying to be listed on their list on their sites, but they do have comprehensive information about the vendor as well as reviews from people who sign on to the website, it does give a good gauge and another way you can evaluate a vendor, having different sources such as blog post, forums and a website can definitely assist in helping you decide if the vendor is worthwhile.
