My Wedding Journey 3 - Save On Wedding Decor With DIY Crafts - Sweet Bunny

garden partition and lamp jar

Photo album display table d├ęcor I guess every wedding in Singapore has a table where the venue be it a hotel or country club provides you to display your photo album or memorabilia. There are many companies offering services for themed setups but if you are like me and would like to save a pretty penny, crafting is the way to go.

I have to say that I am a real nut when it comes to working on crafts; needless to say, I was yearning to create a few pieces for my wedding decoration a year before the actual day. My brain had its creative juices running and my hands were trembling to begin.

Pick simple to do yet stylish projects for your wedding – My youngest sister came across a beautiful picture of a glass jar lamp with a silhouette of a rabbit on Pinterest. I instantly fall in love with this simple yet elegant decorative item. I also came up with an idea to create a mini fence partition out of items bought from Daiso. Just adding fairy lights to these items, jazzes up any decorative set-up.

When choosing a project, I always kept in mind what I am capable of to avoid disappointments when my artwork is not up to standard and also not to waste money and materials. Yes as the saying goes if you never try you will never know but, I am on cost-saving mode at the moment.

Sourcing for cheap craft materialsI always felt that crafting materials need not be expensive, with a little creativity a simple Jar from Fariprice extra which cost $2.00 or items such as rice paper, decoupage glue and varnish from Daiso would work just as well. Also, look of for stuff you have lying around the house just could be made into something new.

Simple deco ideas and crafts I made.

Silhouette jar for wedding decoration – This project is very simple, what I did was print out the design using my HP top load printer on rice paper then stick the rice paper on to the jar using PVA glue/ White Glue. You may also use mod podge which is a better decoupage medium. Another method is printing out the silhouette on paper and using an art knife to cut it out and stick it inside the jar. Needless to say, I wasn’t very competent with the art knife so sticking my cutout outside the jar did the job for me. Lastly, use white paint and paint it on to the jar to give it an opaque feel.

Mini fence partition – In every display I always felt that having a backdrop is important, knowing that my hotel is rather dimly lit, I wanted to lighten up the place, while browsing in Daiso in a novena, I came across these adorable Mini fence partitions and instantaneously an idea struck me. I purchased tiny door hinges and some vines. Initially, I wanted to screw in the door hinges but my father advised me to glue them on instead as the wood was rather thin and screwing in the nails would warp the wood. I then wound and twine in the leafy wines into the partitions of the wooden frame alone with fairy lights. The structure can stand on its own, switch on the fairy light and wow la you have a dazzling backdrop.

Photo frames as tabletop signage
- Photo frames come in all sorts of designs and designs, they also make very good tabletop signatures for guest books, snacks and other gifts you would like to offer your guest. Just slip in the printout text into the frames instead of photographs, it is as simple yet as classy as that.

Have fun crafting! I sure had fun doing my crafts a year before my wedding … Talk about being kiasu.

Lasting Graduation Flowers Singapore - Sweet Bunny

My younger sister graduated with Masters and I wanted to surprise her by getting her a bouquet of flowers. There is a great range of florist in Singapore but I specifically wanted something more lasting, that wouldn’t wither after the special occasion.

Adorable plush keychain perfect as a memento - I also wanted my sister to have something that commemorates her graduation day, I recalled that she once told me that she liked Angel from the cartoon Lilo and stich. I did spend quite an amount of time in my quest for a Plush Graduation Angel. It wasn’t easy but I eventually found her on Carousell, described as a Pink Stich on Mizzu Flora’s website.

Lasting dried flowers –Dried flowers are just as pretty and way more lasting and economical, my sister’s boyfriend and I decided to share the cost and save on transport by doing self-collection. The colourful baby’s breath and the 3 cotton plants were a pretty arrangement, as long as the flowers were kept away from sunlight in a well ventilated room, they would be able to last half a year and perhaps longer. Mizzu Flora is a Korean certified florist who has about 200 good reviews on Carousell, which more than vouches that they are an excellent choice for flowers.

Beautiful flower bouquet wrapping
– I liked that we were given a choice of wrapping colours. There were 2 styles to choose from a white one and a black one bounded together with a ribbon which consisted their branding.

Great website and shopping cart system - The website was simple but well designed , I could easily navigate thru the site and at a glance was able to see the floral collection available. Checking out with my order was also a breeze, no hassle at all, they accept credit card payment.

Ease of self-collection of flowers - In the checkout page there is a column to select your preferred self-collection timing, just set the date and time and your good to go, the collection address was sent to me via email once my transaction was successful.

Well packaged bouquet of flowers
– After my sister’s boyfriend picked up the flower he sent me a photo of it. We arranged to collect the flowers the day before and we were pleased. It was packed in a transparent bag and had a complimentary gift card in a shape of a silver heart.

Support budding businesses – I always felt that we should support budding business rather than well-established ones from time to time, budding business usually consists of an individual completing all the task from design to delivery all by themselves. For their time and effort I deeply feel that we should give them kudos for their hard work, effort and determination.

On the day of my sister’s graduation she was thrilled to receive the bouquet and how much effort we made to get her what she loved. She found Angel plush adorable in her graduation gown. My sister’s BF and I were glad that our efforts paid off, bring a smile to someone you love does make you gleam with happiness too.

Best Eyebrow Embroidery by Ibrow Studio Bishan - Sweet Bunny

Getting my makeup done before work is part of my morning ritual, I used to spend excessive time drawing and filling up my eyebrows. While my natural brows are thick in the front it rather spares towards the ends. I would take up to a good 15 to 20 minutes to complete the daunting task of ensuring that they were as symmetrical as possible.

Professional beauticians at work - Enough was enough; I decided to semi-permanently fix my brows. I have been heading to Ibrow studio (Bishan Branch) for the past year or so for eyebrow threading, I loved that the therapist was very professional, they were patient, kind and highly skilled individuals, always reassuring me and consoling me when I apologised for tearing up. They also gently mentioning other services they provided and had never hard-selling packages to me.

Past experience with bad beauticians - I do tend to tear up or cringe when I get my threading done; I guess my tolerance for pain has dwindled over the years. This might have easily frustrated a beautician as I have experience in the hdb salons in Ang Mo Kio, the beautician got so frustrated she threw down the thread what a loud AH YA and chose to pluck my hairs instead. She didn’t do a very good job giving me uneven eyebrows and rushing through the process. I do suggest you try out a salon to test their skills or check reviews online to ensure that you select the right beautician especially if you are getting embroidery done, I have heard of cases of scaring, brows turning green or red after careless work.

What you need to know about eyebrow embroidery - Eyebrow embroidery or micro-blading is a process where a tiny needle punctures into a layer of your skin and dye is inserted. Always make sure the salon practice good hygiene. Nicole the beautician from Ibrow studio showed me that she started with a brand new needle which is very critical. Disposable needles and blades are best to avoid transition of diseases. I have also noticed that Nicole mixed a fresh coat of ink in time and wore gloves for the entire process.

I also noticed that the salon had a UV steriliser which assured me even more.

The procedure of micro-blading / eyebrow embroidery – Nicole showed me the service menu along with examples of each design, she explained that each price range is for different designs namely –

· Embroidery Incl: 1 Touch Up + Recover Cream

· Misty Brow Incl: 1 Touch Up + Recover Cream

· 3D Creative Incl: 1 Touch Up + Recover Cream

· Natural Floating Incl: 1 Touch Up + Recover Cream

· Korean Exquisite Nude Brow Incl: 1 Touch Up+ Recover Cream

I chose the Misty Brow Design because I felt it looked most natural. After analysing my eyebrows and drawing out the desired design Nicole applied a numbing cream onto my skin she allowed it to set into the skin for about 15 minutes before working on inking in my brows. The process took about an hour and was relatively painless. The finished product was a super-duper dark pair of eyebrows, she assured me that after scabbing of the skin the shade would be natural after the scabbing cycle of the skin which takes about 2 weeks. She gave me a bottle of wound healing gel to apply on to my brows daily, it doesn’t help with pain or itching but it aids in the healing process.

Dos and Don’ts after eyebrow embroidery

· Do wash and cleanse your face but avoid the eyebrows area

· Avoid contact with water in the eyebrow area

· Avoid direct sunlight

· Avoid exercise and sweating as it will affect the colour of your eyebrows for the first week after.

· Avoid scratching or forcing scabs to drop off allow it to do so naturally

· Avoid using whitening products around the eyebrow area.

Second touch up of eyebrow embroidery As a first-timer I was inexperienced with caring for my eyebrows, I did meddle with the scabs resulting in the slightly faded tip and front. Luckily 3 months later was touch uptime. It was admittedly more painful the first even with numbing cream, perhaps because the skin around my eyebrows were a layer thinner. Nicole was very considerate and tried her best to make the process as comfortable as possible by adding more numbing cream. Overall I love my completed brows, just as the first round scabbing for 2 weeks and wow la the final product. I was told that embroidery needs to be touched up every year but for the price of not drawing in my brows every day, it was totally worth it!
